COMING SOON!

It’s not too early to start thinking about flu vaccine!

Raleigh Pediatrics plans to offer flu vaccine during well exams and in our flu clinic. Flu clinics will start the week of September 13th.

Parents may begin calling on Thursday, September 9th to schedule an appointment in the flu clinic.

There is important information about both types of flu vaccine below or visit our Facebook page.

2010-2011 Influenza Vaccine

Each year, the viruses used in making seasonal influenza vaccines are chosen based on information collected over the previous year about which influenza viruses are expected to spread during the upcoming flu season.  Due to the emergence of H1N1 flu in 2009, this strain has been included in the 2010-2011 influenza vaccine and will eliminate the need for two separate vaccines.  The vaccine will still be available in both the injectable and the nasal mist form.  Please click here for more information concerning seasonal influenza vaccine.

Well Exam Schedule Changes

Raleigh Pediatric Associates has adopted the recommendations for preventive pediatric health care as outlined by the American Academy of Pediatrics. Effective immediately, we will add a 30 month (2½ year) exam for toddlers, as well as recommend that our patients have yearly well exams starting with the child’s fifth birthday. Previously, after the child turned five, we recommended well exams every two years, unless there was a chronic medical condition or parental concern.

Even though the above recommendation includes all of our patients, there may be individual circumstances that require more frequent visits. Developmental, psychosocial, and chronic disease issues for children and adolescents may require more frequent counseling and treatment visits separate from preventive care visits.

Raleigh Pediatrics and the American Academy of Pediatrics continue to stress the importance of routine preventive care to assure continuity of medical care.

As always, please check with your insurance company for specific coverage of these visits.

If you are unsure if your child is due for a well exam, please ask our staff.

Closed for Lunch

Our offices are closed from 1:00 to 1:45 p.m., Monday through Friday for lunch.

If you have an urgent problem that cannot wait until 1:45 p.m., you may call our answering service at 919-831-5394.

General Information
Sports Physicals

Wake County, Johnston County, and Harnett County Public Schools require Middle School and High School athletes to have a complete physical exam within 365 days prior to the first practice or tryout date. If your child desires to participate in a school sport, be sure to schedule a yearly physical for your child.  For more information regarding school sports requirements, please refer to the following websites:

Wake County Public Schools

Johnston County Public Schools

Harnett County Public Schools

Kindergarten Physicals

School systems in this area require that all children receive a complete physical within 365 days of starting kindergarten. This consists of obtaining height, weight, blood pressure, vision screen, audiogram, labwork, and updating immunizations. Each county provides a form for the physician's office to complete which should be returned to your child's school after the physical exam. Please bring this form with you to the visit. If the physical is not performed before school begins, you will have a thirty day grace period to get the exam and to complete the form. These appointment slots fill up quickly, so please call early to schedule your child's kindergarten physical.

Extended Hours

If your child has an urgent medical problem which requires care outside of regular office hours, he or she may be seen by appointment in either the Raleigh or the Garner office in the evenings, Monday through Friday, from 5:00 until 6:00 p.m. The Raleigh office is open for emergencies only on Saturday and Sunday mornings. Our appointment line is open from 8:00 until 11:00 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Parents desiring to bring an acutely ill child to be seen during these times should call the main office at (919) 872-0250. Please note that there is an additional charge for late stay and weekend office visits. This may not be covered by your insurance.

For problems that arise outside of these hours, or if there is no answer at the office number, please call the answering service at (919) 831-5394. They will refer your call to the Pediatric Advice Line or contact the pediatrician on call. Please do not call the Pediatric Advice Line directly.
